Clashes at Trahi Achyuta Ashram near Bhubaneswar, 20 Vehicles Burnt

Violent clashes broke out at the Trahi Achyuta Ashram on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, leaving many people injured. The angry mob entered into the Ashram and ransacked the properties. Around 20-25 vehicles were either damaged or burnt. Over 2,000 people are involved in the coordinated attack.

The supporters of Sura Baba alias Surendra Mishra tried to block the protesters, resulting in violent clashes. Many people are said to be injured. While some of the houses of the Ashram were set on fire, many bikes, cars and auto-rickshaws were damaged.

The police immediately rushed to the spot to control the situation. Police Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Prasad Sharma is at the spot. At least four platoons of police forces have been deployed at the Ashram premises. The Police Commissioner has requested the people to maintain peace and calm and assured them that their complaints will be heard.

The Trahi Achyuta Ashram at Jhinti is accused of grabbing 550 decimals of government land illegally. Sura Baba has sought 15 days time to appear before the Balianta Tehsildar to respond to the allegations and charges. Apart from these charges, there are other allegation of sex racket, real estate fraud and illegal activities inside the Ashram.
