HC issues Show Cause Notice to Rabi Nanda over Forged Docs

The Orissa High Court has issued notice to BJD Spokesperson  and former School & Mass Education Minister Rabi Narayan Nanda, for submitting “forged” document in the court in support of his evidence. The court also asked why criminal proceedings should not be initiated against him.

BJD leader Rabi Nanda challenged the election of Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Congress MLA from Jeypore in Orissa High Court. He had submitted a medical report from Jeypore Additional District Medical officer (ADMO), seeking to defer the case citing illness. He had claimed that doctors had advised him bed rest for six weeks.

The Court found that ADMO was a Gynecologist, but Nanda claimed to have cardiac-related aliments due to hyper tension. Also, as per the rules, the ADMO can advise only two weeks of bed rest, but Rabi Nanda produced the document, which advised six weeks of bed rest.

Pitambar Acharya, counsel for Tara Prasad Bahinipati, submitted evidence that Nanda was engaged in political meetings in Jeypore during that period. Justice Biswnath Rath, taking strong exception in the matter, has issued the show-cause notice to Nanda and adjourned the matter to be heard again after two weeks.
