Odisha Govt has no funds for Model School

The Naveen government’s dream project to establish a model school in every block of educationally backward districts seems to be difficult task due to financial constraints. As usual, the state government blames the Centre for limited financial assistance.

While Jeypore MLA and Congress Chief Whip Taraprasd Bahinipati questioned the State Govt’s integrity and will power to set up model schools in undivided Koraput districts, School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra said in the State Assembly that the Odisha government had decided to set up model school in every block of educationally backward districts, but due to financial limitation the plan is delayed and the Government is committed to find out the financial sources to fulfill the plan.

“We had expected an amount of Rs 150 crore from Central government towards the plan of establishing model schools in the state. However, the Central government has allocated Rs 1 crore only in its current budget for entire country”, the Minister said.

On the floor of the House, Mishra informed that there are no schools in 59 Panchayats of the state. 13 Panchayats of undivided Koraput district and 4 Panchayats each of Nuapada and Kandhamal district lack High schools, said Mishra.
