ONI Bureau: Australia defeated Olympic Champion Argentina 2-1 to lift the Odisha Hockey World League 2017 title at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. With this win, they not only retained their title, but also dethroned Argentina as the No. 1 team in the world.
The Kangaroos dominated the game from the beginning and scored the first goal in the 17th minute through Jeremy Hayward. Although Agustin Bugallo equalised in the 33rd minute for Argentina, Australia bounced back in the 58th minute when Blake Govers scored the winning goal.
Argentina had to settle for a Silver medal, while India took the Bronze by defeating Germany in the playoff. Belgium, Spain, England and Netherlands finished 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th respectively.
