Dutee Chand allowed to participate in Asian Championship

Odisha sprinter Dutee Chand got a huge relief after the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Switzerland allowed her to participate in the Asian Athletics Championship to be held in Wuhan, China, from June 3 to 7.

This will enable the promising sprinter to compete in an international competition exactly after a gap of one year. However, she will have to sit out of other continental or international events till the final verdict.

19 year old Dutee was barred from taking part in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and Asian Games after failing a hormone test. She was suspected of having a condition called ‘hyperandrogenism’ following a test conducted in June.

Dutee became national under-18 champion for 100m sprint in 2012. She had won a Bronze medal in 200m in 2013 Asian Games.

The sprinter had also won two gold medals in women’s 200m and 4x400m relay in the Asian junior athletics championship in Chinese Taipei in June 2014.
