Turkish forces bombard in Syria, 24 civilians killed

At least 24 civilians have been killed in the bombings led by Turkish troops in the Syrian town of Al Bab, which is held by the Islamic State (IS) group, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights on Tuesday.

Turkey’s army officials however said, only terrorists were targeted in the attack. 43 Islamic State fighters were “neutralized” during the operation.

The UK based reports said that at least 11 children were killed in the bombardment that lasted for around 24 hours over the weekend.

Al-Bab is IS’s final stronghold in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo and has come under fierce attack by Turkish forces and allied Syrian rebels in recent months.

The Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that the town has been taken under control and security has been beefed up in the areas.

Almost half of the population has been displaced since the war started and more than 3, 10,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests.
