PM Narendra Modi meets 12 Trade Unions on Tea and Snacks

Successive governments had always ignored the plight of trade unions and they were not heard since 2009. Also, no PM had directly talks to him in several decades. PM Modi met 12 central Trade Unions on a Tea and Snacks Sunday evening, but did not give any assurances to resolve their issues.

The meeting holds significance on the eve of the 46th Indian Labour Conference (ILC) to be inaugurated by PM Modi today. However, the trade unions have decided to go ahead with their proposed strike on September 2 if their demands and concerns are not taken care of.

Besides the INTUC, AITUC, CITU and BMS, the meetings were attended by leaders of Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Hind Mazdoor Sangh, Labour Progressive Federation, National Front of Indian Trade Unions, Self-Employed Women’s Association, Trade Union Coordination Centre and United Trade Union Congress.
