India warns Facebook of strong action if it sways electoral process

ONI Bureau:  India on Wednesday warned social media platforms Facebook of ‘strong action’ if it sways country’s electoral process through undesirable means.

Law and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said if any data theft of Indians is done with the collusion of FB systems, it will not be tolerated.

Worth mentioning, Facebook is facing criticism after reports emerged that Cambridge Analytica, accessed the data of 50 million Facebook users’s data without consent. Frustrated users useing Twitter under the hashtag #DeleteFacebook in protest of Facebook’s data and privacy policies.

WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton who left Facebook in September last year urged users to “delete” Facebook amid a massive data harvesting scandal.

Earlier, Facebook suspended Cambridge Analytica from its platform on Friday night, a data analytics firm that played an important role in President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.
