Congress retains Kolhapur Municipal Corporation, BJP posts Gains

The Congress Party, which contested the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation polls independently from NCP, emerged as the single largest party with 21 seats in the 81-member municipal body. With NCP’s support, they are all retain the KMC.

The BJP, which fought the KMC polls along with Tararani Front led by NCP MP Dhananjay Mahadik, increased its tally to 13 from just 3 in 2010. Tararani Front won 19 seats. In total, they won 32 seats, but it was not enough to get majority.

On the other hand, Congress and NCP contested separately and suffered losses. Congress’ tally was down to 27 from 31 in 2010. NCP suffered heavy losses, as they won 15 seats, as compared to 25 in 2010. But, both parties reached the magic figure together. For Shiv Sena, there were no gains, no losses. They had won 4 seats in 2010 and remained the same in 2015.
