156 Maoist Supporters surrender in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Oct 13: As many as 156 Maoist supporters in the district have surrendered before police on Monday afternoon here. The supporters belong to Badaliguda and Darabaguda villages surrendered before the police in the presence of SP Mitrabhyanu Mohapatra.

The Malkangiri SP said the police department would provide assistance to the surrendered Maoist supporters as per the rehabilitation policy set by the Odisha government.

More than 800 villagers said to be the supporter of Maoists surrendered before police last month and more than 1000 supporters surrendered in one-and-half month in the district. Surrendered villagers alleged the Maoist leaders  of killing innocent people to create havoc and panic situation in the district.

It is noteworthy that, not only supporters, some hardcore Maoists had also surrendered in last month before the police making anti-naxal drive a huge success in the district, once it was most Maoists infected districts of Odisha. However, Maoists have termed the surrender spree as a eyewash and opposing this move they have intensified their insurgency activities against police, forces and villagers in the district.

The other day, the Maoists attacked on the forces those were on combing operation along Odisha-Chhattisgarh border. And, on Monday they abducted a driver of truck after setting it on fire in Narayanpatna forest area.
