Athagarh, Oct 5: A 30 year old female elephant found electrocuted in 11 kv live current in a muddy cornfield under Brahmanabasta forest area on Sunday morning. According to sources, the pachyderm when passed its corridor in the early morning of Sunday came in contact with a low lying live wires of 11 kv current passed through the area.

After intimation, Athagarh DFO Arun Mishra with his team reached the spot and inspected the situation under which circumstances the pachyderm could have died. He informs this paper that the elephant might have rub of with the electric poles consequently the wires could have come to low lying area beneath six feet height and coming in contact with the live wires it could have died.

However locals have alleged that the sayings of DFO are to save the job of some forest and electrical officials for whose negligence the death of an elephant happened during the wild life week observed by the government. Locals say that the forester engaged here is a lady staff who does not even stay in the head quarters. The forest guard of the area also used not to stay in the field.

Electrical officials also do not visit the elephant corridor area and do not report the authority at proper time for which the heinous accident happened which is man made, allege the locals. Government has erected solar fencing for elephants by spending crores of rupees in this route but all that are useless when the safety of wild animals are in challenge at every step. The locals have alleged that as the Forest and electric officials have nexus with the local politicians, they are in their posts secured for over decades.
