Orissa HC rejects ISKCON’s plea on Puri Temple

The Orissa High Court on Wednesday rejected ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness)’s plea challenging an order of Puri-Konark Development Authority (PKDA) regarding the former’s proposed construction of a Jagannath temple in the holy city of Puri.

The High Court asked ISKCON to present its side before PKDA on the temple project and its construction.

ISKCON had moved the High Court following PKDA’s order to ‘stop work’ on the temple at Baliapanda in Puri and submit details of the construction project.

It is to be mentioned that senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra on January 18 had alleged at a press conference that ISKCON was conspiring to construct another Jagannath temple in the holy city of Puri, where a 12th-century Jagannath temple is situated.

Following the allegations of Mohapatra and various sections of the people, PKDA on January 19 had ordered to stop construction of the proposed temple till disposal of the case.

However, ISKCON, had clarified that the proposed temple would be a Radha-Krishna temple instead of a Jagannath temple.
