Australia beat Ireland 2-1 in Hockey World Cup 2018

ONI Bureau: The Kangaroos began the Hockey World Cup 2018 campaign at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar with a 2-1 win over Ireland. The Aussies were expected to register a comprehensive win by a bigger margin, but were denied by a spirited Irish team.

In this Pool B game today, Australia drew the first blood when Blake Govers scored the first goal in the 11th minute. Shane O’Donoghue equalized it in the 13th minute to make it 1-1. Timothy Brand scored the second goal for Australia in the 33rd minute. Both teams tried hard, but could not score any more goals.

Timothy Brand was declared ‘Player of the Match’.
