India end Rio 2016 Campaign with 2 Medals, Yogeshwar Disappoints

Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, who had won a Bronze medal at 2012 London Olympics, has disappointed at Rio, as he crashed out in the first bout itself to a weaker Mongolian opponent without a fight. India had to end its Rio campaign on a disappointing note with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.

India finished 67th at the medal tally. The major disappointment came in Shooting, Lawn Tennis and Wrestling, where we expected better results this time. PV Sindhu (Badminton) and Sakshi Malik (Wrestling) were the saving grace.

Vinesh Phogat’s injury and Narsingh Yadav last-minute ban too dented India’s medal prospects. Abhinav Bindra (Shooting), Dipa Karmakar (Gymnastics) and Sania Mirza-Rohan Bopanna (Lawn Tennis) narrowly missed the Bronze medals in their respective categories.
