Johannesburg Test: South Africans play ‘Pitch Card’ to avoid Defeat

ONI Bureau: All the thrilling moments of Day 3, ended with disappointment and controversy, as South African batsmen forced the officials announce calling off the day’s play citing uneven bounce and dangerous pitch.

It all happened when Elgar suffered a blow on helmet and Proteas blamed it on the pitch. Replay confirmed he misjudged the delivery and it was not a dangerous one, but South Africans used that to their advantage.

The Indians clarified they too got hit and faced problems from Day 1, but did not complain. However, South Africans did. They later urged everyone not to smell any foul play, saying they did it for players’ safety.

Earlier, India bowled out for 247 in the second innings – much better score than the first innings. Vijay (25), Kohli (41), Rahane (48), Bhuvneshwar (33) and Shami (27) were the top scorers. For South Africa, Philander, Rabada and Morkel took 3 wickets each.

Chasing 242 to win, South Africa were 17/1 when game was called off owing to the controversy. It’s not yet known whether the play would resume tomorrow or Test match would be abandoned.
