Centre asks 27 Artistes and 60 Journalists to vacate Govt Houses in Delhi

The Narendra Modi Government has issued notices to 27 prominent Artistes and 60 Top Journalists to vacate their Government Bungalow/Apartments in Lutyen’s Delhi. The list includes painter Jatin Das, dancers Shovana Narayan, Pandit Birju Maharaj and santoor player Bhajan Sopori and families of famous dhrupad singer R.F.K. Duggar, rudra veena player Asad Ali Khan and sitar player Vilayat Ali Khan.

There is no complete information on the names of Journalists yet. Many more eminent personalities are in the firing line. The government is acting on the recommendations of the CAG.

The CAG had put forth certain conditions for the allotments. It said the monthly income of the persons who are allotted apartments should be less than Rs 20,000 and that they should not own a house or flat in the national capital. However, successive governments in the past violated the rules to accommodate eminent personalities, Artistes and Journalists.
