Boko Haram Militants kill 2,000 in Nigeria

Boko-HaramThe Boko Haram militants opened indiscriminate fire and almost butchered people across 13 villages in Northern Nigeria to kill over 2,000 people, CNN reported. The attack on Baga and surrounding towns, was one of the deadliest act of terror in modern history.

The Boko Haram militants stormed into the Baga town and nearby villages using trucks, tanks and other armored vehicles. They just wanted to see the blood. They killed people and celebrated over their dead bodies, said the eyewitnesses.

Even they brought motorcycles in the trucks to chase the residents who tried to flee into the bush. Dead bodies are lying scattered in the region. Some people who hid in their homes, were burnt alive. The attacks continued for a few days and now there is an uneasy calm all around.

Thousands of people have fled their homes after the deadly attack. They are staying in refugee camps in Maiduguri city and other areas. While conflicting reports are coming over the exact number of casualties, many media houses put the toll at over 2,000.

Boko Haram, which aims at imposing Sharia law across Nigeria, has been attacking locations in northern Nigeria since 2009. They keep attacking police, schools, churches and civilians, and bombing government buildings. Hundreds of schoolgirls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram, still remain missing.
