Haryana procures over 67.54 lakh Tonnes of Wheat

Chandigarh, May 17 (IANS): Haryana has procured over 67.54 lakh tonnes of wheat this season. Haryana Food and Supplies Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said on Sunday that wheat procurement is 3.48 lakh tonnes higher as compared With the procurement made up to the same day last year.

The procurement has exceeded Haryana’s target of procuring 65 lakh tonnes wheat this year. Despite concern due to the damage to standing crop following erratic weather, rainfall and hailstorms in March and April, the state has been able to procure wheat in excess of target.

Government agencies have procured over 99.8 percent of the wheat arrival so far. Sirsa, Karnal and Fatehabad were the leading districts in wheat procurement.
