Facebook Debate on Naveen Patnaik’s demand for Financial Autonomy

ONI Bureau: Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik recently said that he neither requires a special category status for the State nor any central assistance; all that he needs is financial autonomy. What’s your take?

You have answered to our question on Facebook.

Prasanna Mishra: He should write a detailed article on his idea and make it available in newspapers to the public for wider appreciation.

Padmanav Patra: This is a highly considered view. Special status will never be granted as per the present guidelines. So, financial autonomy is a better demand which too will never be met.

Laxminarayan Kanungo: Politicians have least say in devolution of taxes between Centre & States. Finance Commissions (FCs) in general, distribute funds between Centre and states scientifically.

Acharya Biswa: Is it possible now? As proposed by Krushna Chandra Gajapati, India should be a federal republic – United States of India on the lines of USA. If not possible, then it is the loss of Odisha and our incapable leadership should be blamed for it. Not implementing central health insurance, whose loss? If India becomes a federal state like USA, then Odisha will be economically empowered. Precious time has already been lost.
