ESM Veterans end Hunger Strike, thank PM Modi, but continue Stir

OROP ESMNew Delhi, Sep 6: A day after the central government announced it will implement the OROP scheme for the military, the ex-servicemen ended the fast-unto-death. They thanked PM Modi for reassuring them on VRS issue and expressed full satisfaction over his remarks.

However, they decided to continue their stir, demanding the fulfilment of other demands and hold a ‘Gaurav Rally’ across the country on September 12.

Maj. Gen. Satbir Singh (retd), a key figure in the campaign seeking the implementation of One Rank One Pension, said though the government said it would implement the scheme, it needed to do more.

“The agitation will continue. We will intensify it further,” he told the media near the Jantar Mantar here, adding that not much money was required to fulfill their remaining demands. “Only Rs.30 crore would be needed,” he said. They are demanding the implementation of OROP from April 1, 2014, while the government has announced it from July 1, 2014.
