Farmer’s Suicide: Kejriwal apologises, but slams Media

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind KejriwalDelhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal finally broke his silence and apologiged for continuing his speech after suicide of the farmer Gajendra Singh at his rally. He urged everyone to stop blame game and focus on the real issue.

Kejriwal sought to defend himself, saying the tree on which Ganjendra Singh hanged himself, was far from the stage and due to tree’s branches, he could not see what was happening. “Yes, I made a mistake. I should have called off the rally. I continued my speech, and that was my fault. I apologise if anyone’s sentiments have been hurt. But, I took this decision to avoid any stampede,” he said.

Kejriwal slammed the media for highlighting the issue vociferously and putting his party in the dock. “The TV channels are indulged in a TRP war. Politics is being played over a farmer’s suicide. Nobody present there thought Gajendra was going to commit suicide”, he further added.

“As the incident occurred in front of me, I could not sleep for the whole night on Wednesday. But, I hope that truth will come out after inquiry. Whoever is guilty, should be hanged. But, we need to focus on farmers and stop more suicides”, he suggested.
