Eve Ensler supports Indian Film ‘Kajarya’

KajaryaNew Delhi, Nov 2: Eve Ensler, a women rights activist and the writer of the play “The Vagina Monologues”, has lent her support to Madhureeta Anand’s “Kajarya” — a film that deals with the pertinent topic of sex selection in India.

The film has travelled to various film festivals and has been appreciated.

“’Kajarya’ is a fierce, disturbing, lyrical and illuminating tour de force imploring us to face the patriarchal murdering of thousands of our girl babies and how structural and traditional oppression destroys women, turning them against their own souls. It is a brave and important film and should be seen by all,” Ensler said in a statement.

The film is a thriller about two women — the first is Kajarya played by Meena Hooda, a woman who lives in the village and has the job of killing baby; and the other is an opportunistic journalist from New Delhi, played by Ridhima Sud.

Shot in Haryana, “Kajarya” follows the life of these two women from different backgrounds, whose lives intertwine as the story explores the condition of women both in rural and urban India through a different perspective.

The film is set to release on December 4.
