All-India Sociological Conference to conclude at KISS-Bhubaneswar on Dec 29

Medha PatkarBhubanewar, Dec 28: The 41st All-India Sociological Conference on ‘Development, Marginalization and People’s Movements’ is being organized by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in association of Indian Sociological Society from 27th to 29th December 2015.

Renowned social activist Medha Patkar; renowned sociologist and activist Prof. Anand Sharma, President Indian Sociological Society; Prof. R. Indira, Secretary Indian Sociological Society would address the inaugural session. Life time achievement award will be presented to Prof. Y. C. Simahdri, VC, Patna University, Prof. Iswar Prasad Modi, Rajstan University and Prof. Harish Doshi, VSNG University, Surat during the inaugural session.

The main objective of the conference is to enable the discussion of current research results from different perspectives and representing sociology as a discipline that builds upon micro studies on development and marginalization leading to people’s movements. Also to provide a platform for discussing methodological and conceptual questions of relevance for development, marginalization and people’s movements in the light of ongoing processes of change, diversification and mobilization.

To facilitate the development of new trans-disciplinary research and new inter-sector networks that will provide an opportunity for theoretical and applied knowledge relocate across different sectors in society – academic, public policy, civil society etc. and to develop a contemporary vision of social progress and social development; Issues related to livelihood and development of marginalized sections in the context of globalization, liberalization and privatization are other objectives of the event.
