Rayagada, June 14: While the students of the neighbourhood schools were planning for Raja festival during the summer holidays, the pupils of Laxmipat Sighania Public School(LPS) promoted by J K Paper Mills Ltd at JK Pur thought to spend the vacation in a meaningful way.
They decided not to go for merry-go-round trips outside JK Pur and planned to raise some finance for their peer destitute subjugated with poverty elsewhere. A few of the students of LPS came together and approached the officers of paper mills to wash their car and requested them to donate for the cause. The students did not expect sympathy from the officers but expected a genuine wage in lieu of their labour. The officers were convinced and supported the young students for a philanthropic purpose. A few other students collected old news papers, made Thungas (paper packets) & sold them in the nearby markets. It fetched a good amount of money as polythene pouches are banned.
Finally this silent initiative yielded results as expected. They could collect Rs.25500 in toto. When Sri P K Suri, Executive Vice President of the paper mills came to know about the noble initiative, he became so jubilant that he came forward to further this cause of the students. Mr.Suri fixed an appointment of these students with Sri Jagannath Mohanty, Collector Rayagada and in his presence, distributed the entire amount to the needy orphans of Adrut Children Home & Jagannath Niketan of Rayagada for pursuing higher education like Diploma Engineering.
Mr Suri and Mr Mohanty have assured these students to energize their philanthropic effort. “If such philanthropic initiatives of care and share can be inculcated from an young age, class disparity can be minimized in a non-violent way. The students can be examples for other students and affluent adults as well. Sharing positive stories like this will boost the morale of these child philanthropists and show the way for others ”, said Sri H K Khamari, CSR Manager of JK Paper Mills Ltd.
