Mumbai CP Rakesh Maria shifted as Home Guards DG

In a surprising move, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria has been promoted and transferred as Home Guards DG. He was the man behind Sheena Bora murder expose. Maria had vowed to take the high profile case to its logical conclusion and not to allow another Aarushi murder case.

Javed Ahmed, who will retire after 4 months, will replace Rakesh Maria as the new Commissioner of Police in Mumbai. It is believed that the powerful lobby of Peter Mukerjea and Indrani Mukerjea is behind Maria’s transfer.

The Maharashtra Government termed it as a routine affair and said the promotion was due. “We wanted to take a decision before the Ganapati Festival,” said the government sources. Rakesh Maria was eligible for the post of DGP in 2011 itself. He is retiring in December 2016.
