Over 5,000 Villages electrified in six months: PM Modi

Power-IndiaPrime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said over 5,000 villages that were without power, have been provided electricity over the past six months and lauded the power ministry for doing excellent work.

In a series of tweets, Modi said he had announced from Red Fort last year that 18,452 villages that were without electricity will be provided power within 1,000 days.

“From the ramparts of the Red Fort last year, I had called for the electrification of all remaining villages in 1,000 days (18,452 villages).

“Happy to share that Team India has done exceedingly well. Within about 6 months only (around 200 days), we have crossed the 5,000-mark.

“Already 5,279 villages have been electrified. Excellent work has been done by the Power Ministry in Bihar, UP, Odisha, Assam and Jharkhand.

“Power Ministry shares real time updates on rural electrification. Their dashboard is worth a look. http://www.garv.gov.in,” Modi posted.

The government has decided to electrify the remaining 18,452 un-electrified villages by May 1, 2018. (IANS)
