Syrian Scholar and Archeologist Khaled Asaad beheaded by ISIS

After spending 50 years looking after the ancient city of #Palmyra, Syrian Scholar and Archeologist Khaled Asaad was beheaded by ISIS at the age of 82. His mutilated body was hanged on a column at the main square of the historic city.

Assad was tortured by ISIS for nearly a month, but he refused to reveal where valuable artefacts had been moved for safekeeping.
