United Nations to issue honorary Stamp on M S Subbulakshmi

The United Nations Postal Administration will issue a stamp to mark the birth centenary of Indian music legend M S Subbulakshmi next week, on the occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day.

India’s Independence Day will be commemorated at the world body’s headquarters this year, and Oscar-winning composer, A R Rahman will delight UN diplomats in the UN General Assembly hall on August 15.

M S Subbulakshmi is the first Indian musician to receive the Ramon Magsaysay award. She was also the first musician ever to be awarded with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.

The birth centenary of the legendary Carnatic singer falls on September 16, 2016.
