J&K Governor kills ‘Grand Alliance’; dissolves Assembly

ONI Bureau: In a sudden development tonight, Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik dissolved the state assembly, which was in suspended animation, shortly after the ‘Grand Alliance’ of PDP, Congress and National Conference staked claim to form the government with the support of 56 MLAs.

Interestingly, Mehbooba had earlier tweeted that she was not able to fax her letter to the Raj Bhawan for staking claim for government formation.

Earlier today, Sajad Lone, leader of the People’s Conference, which had two MLAs in J&K Assembly, had staked claim to form the government with the support of BJP and 18 rebel MLAs after Mehbooba Mufti staked claim as part of ‘Grand Alliance’.

Governor’s Rule will continue in J&K till fresh elections are held. Sources believe that PDP, Congress and NC never wanted to form Government; rather they wanted to put pressure on the Governor to dissolve the Assembly, as BJP was trying to split their parties.

The PDP had 28 MLAs in 87-member Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, followed by BJP (25), National Conference (15) and Congress (12).
