Maoists Supporters in MalkangiriMalkangiri, Nov 4: In a major setback to anti-naxal movement in Malkangiri district, as many as 40 families have abandoned their homes due to threat from Maoists. As per the reports, 40 families of Kanaguda village under Kalimela block left their homes after receiving threatening from Maoists groups on Tuesday.

Some villagers told that the red-rebels held a meeting Sunday night in the village in which they threatened villagers leave the area within a week. Maoists announced capital punishment for those will not vacate the village, they added.

It is noteworthy; the red rebels had killed two villagers suspecting them as police informer in last month. In last two months more than 800 villagers were surrendered before the police, those were apparently supporters of Maoists outfits.

Following the surrender spree, Maoists have intensified their insurgency in the district terming the surrender episode as fabricated by police department to weakening their revolt. And, more than six hardcore Maoists were also killed in security forces combing operation in last three months in the district and bordering areas.  The surrendering of villagers before police and surge in combing operations by forces baffled Maoists outfits.
