Arun Jaitley promises to intervene in Srabani, Amiya matter

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday assured BJD Rajya Sabha MP Bhupinder Singh that he would discuss with Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Arun Jaitley said he will write a letter to the AFI about the issue.

Bhupinder Singh has written a letter to Parliamentary Affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi requesting him to intervene in the matter.

Odisha sprinters Amiya Kumar Mallick and Srabani Nanda were credited with incredible hand-timings of 10.09 secs and 11.23 secs to win the men’s and women’s 100m sprint races. The Rio qualifications norms are 10.16 secs and 11.32 secs. But the record were not acceptable by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) due to manual timings instead of electronic timers.
