Bird Flu scare in Paradip, culling begins

ONI Bureau:  In the wake of detection of bird flu, the Jagatsinghpur district administration began culling of fowl in Badapadia area of Paradip town on Sunday evening.

Around ten rapid response teams have been formed to handle the situation. As many as 2000 hens will be culled during the three-day operation.

Due to increase in number of suspected bird flu, the administration has put a ban on sale of chicken meat and conducted raids at meat-selling shops in the town. The locals also advised not to consume chicken in Badapadia and Sandhakuda areas of Paradip.

Notably, around 32,000 birds were culled due to bird flu outbreak in Keranga area in 2012.
