Chief Secretary reviews Development Plan for Rourkela @ Smart City

Rourkela is now on the runway for inclusion in Smart City projects. The district administration along with Rourkela Municipal Corporation are on their trial to upgrade the city’s physical and social infrastructure along with waste management and city development plans to come out successful in national level competition to be held shortly.

Chief Secretary Sri Aditya Prasad Padhi took a review of the progress done in this matter in a high level meeting held in secretariat conference hall today. Taking stock of the progress, Sri Padhi directed the ULB to finalize the upgraded proposal by 25 th June, 2016 reflecting the peoples’ aspiration and community Replying to a media query after the meeting, Chief Secretary said that in the meeting today we discussed about the vision statement of Rorkela Smart City, the project components implementation mechanism, convergence with other ongoing programmes etc. Around 24 aspirational points have been identified.

Rourkela Municipality would finalize the draft including all these inputs. The project would be sent to Govt of India by 30 th June, 2016. The important components of the smart city project included river front development at Panposh, connected neighborhood, complete streets, 24×7 water supply, multi utility citizen service, entrepreneurship development, children and senior citizen friendly civic life, transport complex, development of smart corridor, development of core business and core institutional area , development tribal art and culture, housing and social infrastructure etc.

Special Secretary Housing & urban Development Sri Shishir Kumar Ratho, Municipal Commissioner BMC Sri Kishan Kumar, Collector, Sundargarh Sri Bhupindra SinghPoonia, ADM, Rourkela Smt Monisha Banarjee, Commissioner Rorkela Municipal Corporation sri Akshya Kumar Mallck along with project consultants from DFID participated in deliberations.
