Culling at Kerang begins today after Bird Flu outbreak

culling-of-henIn the wake of detection of bird flu, culling of fowl began today at Keranga village in Khurda district and the culling process will continue for three days.

Around ten rapid response teams have been formed to handle the situation. As many as 2000 hens will be culled during the three-day operation.

The sample of dead hens was sent to Bhopal on December 19 which was tested positive. The State Government on Monday issued an alert to start culling after chickens at Keranga village have tested positive for H5N1 A1 virus.

Notably, around 32,000 birds were culled due to bird flu outbreak in Keranga area in 2012. Now Bird Flu returned to the Keranga area after a gap of four year.
