IISER, Berhampur to begin Admission Process for 2016-17

Berhampur-IISERBhubaneswar, 31st March: In another step forward towards world class science education & research in Odisha, IISER Berhampur has been scheduled to start teaching & learning from the academic year, 2016-17.

A high level meeting to this effect was held under the Chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sri Aditya Prasad Padhi in secretariat conference hall today wherein Principal Secretary Skill Development and Technical Education Sri Laxmi Narayan Gupta outlined the issues for discussion and the Director IISER Sri Vinod Kumar Singh presented the updates. Joint Secretary Ministry of Human Resource Development Smt Reena Soonal and Collector Ganjam Sri Prem Chandra Choudhury joined the meeting over video conferencing from Delhi and Ganjam respectively.

It was decided in the meeting that Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Berhampur would function from coming academic session of 2016-17 in a transit accommodation in the IIT campus of Berhampur. The Academic cum Administrative building of IIT would be made available to IISER as its temporary campus. Chief Secretary Sri Padhi assured IISER authorities present in the meeting that all infrastructural facilities like quality power supply, road connectivity and water supply would be ensured.

Secretary Rods and Building Sri Nalini Kanta Pardhan  along with Collector, Ganjam were asked to expedite the road construction. Collector Ganjam informed that around 200 acers of land have been identified at Loudigam for permanent campus of IISER. The location of the site has been appreciated by IISER authorities since it is nearer to NH and Railway. The Airstrip of Rangeilunda is only 23 kms away from the spot.

Chief Secretary Sri Padhi directed the Collector Ganjam to finish demarcation of the land and raise the boundary wall before handing it over to IISER. The IISER authorities were also asked to submit the requisition for land as per the prescribed norms.

Replying to a media quarry after the meeting, Director IISER Sri Singh said that around 50 students would be admitted this year during July, 2016.  Hostel facilities would be provided to both the boys and girls.

He also mentioned that State Govt has proactively provided all necessary support and assistance to start the teaching & learning from coming session and we are thankful to the Govt for this support.

Senior officers from the department of skill development and technical education along with the IIT and IISER authorities participated in deliberations.
