Karlapat Encounter: Maoists call bandh on Nov 23

MaoistsBhubaneswar, Nov 17: Condemning Karlapat encounter, Maoists called bandh in three blocks of Kalahandi district on November 2. They protested against the police encounter that took place on Sunday in which three civilians including a ward member were killed.

Maoists cadres demanded compensation of Rs.10 lakh to the family members of those killed in the encounter. The alleged the Karlapat police of fabricating story as there was no firing from the other side during the encounter.

Notably, over the encounter, the Odisha Human Rights Commission sought report from the state government as three civilians were killed in the incident. The deceased have been identified as Jai Majhi, Sukru Majhi and Jay Shanka Naik, a ward member, of Panchgulgaon area. The sources said the security personnel and members of the district voluntary force allegedly opened fire on the villagers after noticing their movement in the forest.
