Maoists annihilate a tribal and leave his family members at lurch

koraput-naxalRayagada, Jan 18: After remaining at low key position for almost a year and half, the red rebels are up in arms now in Narayanpatna-Bandhugaon region. They have again mercilessly slit the throat of a tribal youth named Krishna Miniyaka during the late midnight of last Friday and fled to the jungle after leaving Krishna in a pool of blood.

The charge is as usual: police informer. As it was a dark night, nobody came out from the houses in the village Kandha Tikarapada, where the incident occurred, under Kabiribadi gram panchayat in Bandhugaon block of Koraput district. The village is a tiny homogeneous village situated more than hundred kilometres away from the district headquarters Koraput.

As the village, which is having around sixty household, is in the interior pocket of the block Bandugaon bordering Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, police took cognizance of the case very late when the villagers brought the body to the hospital. When the local scribes reached the spot, they found no men folk in the entire village. Krishna’s wife told that the ultras entered their house and forcibly dragged her husband, took him to the middle of the village, tied his hand at his back and severely beat him before slitting his throat. She cried for help all through out the night but in vein. She alongwith her two sons sat beside the corpse sobbing and shivering in the chilling cold.

Prasad and Sanjay, who are school going children, were seen dumbfounded. They did not know what to do with their blood stained dead father. They showed us the leaflet written in Telugu where the red rebels claimed them as members of Srikakulum-Koraput Divisional Committee and mentioned that Krishna was an informer to both Odisha and AP police and was helping local Maoist cadres surrender before police. It was also mentioned in the letter that he was also terrorising people by saying that he was a Naxal-supporter. The ultras also warned in the said letter that anybody involved in similar act would face with dire consequences.

Krisna was Naib Sarpanch of Kabiribadi Gram Panchayat before ten years. He was also an active member of Chasi Mulia Adibasi Sangha. After surrendering before police two years back, he had been staying with his second wife Silu and was working under police as home guard.

Previously the red rebels have annihilated several persons from Bandhgaon block namely, Balaram Dalei, Huika Dasa, Saraka Bandu, Komana Kadraka, Balaram Sahukar, Krushna Kalpa(former Sarpanch), Gumpa Kadraka, Meleka Taudu, Puala Sadaram, Niranjan Bidika, Kendruka Arjun(Leader of Chasi Mulia Adibasi Sangha-Factional froup), Enkana Kadraka and many others during last decade. Except a few, mostly the dead belonged to poor tribals, who were killed on the charge of police informer as prime reason.

“Simple and innocent local tribals do not understand the cause the Naxalites are fighting for; but one thing for sure they have  come to understand that they are going to go through this reign of terror just in front of their house. Thus the fear psychosis continues. The destitute wife, children and the relatives crying over the death of an earning member, especially the small children are left at lurch. Children’s mental state seeing a dead body lying in a pool of blood for several hours in the middle of the village will certainly have a destructive societal impact. Violence perpetration will lead only to more violence and ultimately the community is at the losing end. We all must refrain from spreading violence including the state”, said Sri Jayaram Jena, a septuagenarian Gandhian and peace keeper.
