ONI Bureau: Kendrapara MP Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda on Monday resigned from BJD, tweeted his office.

In his resignation letter he has mentioned that he would write a separate letter to the Speaker to accept his resignation from Lok Sabha upon completion of religious obligation of bereavement.

The MP expressed deep pain and anguish over the way Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik & BJD leaders treated his father Dr. Bansi Pansa after his demise.

He wrote that no bureaucrat or politician, either at the state or national level, can claim that he have ever sought a pecuniary favour, nor can any member of the public. He have use the public platform not for any personal gains but always to push for systematic reforms or the greater good o India and Odisha.

“I have given my heart and soul for the development of Kendrapara, visiting each and every of the several hundred panchayats (at three of which i was told no other MP had ever visited before)”, Panda wrote.

“I will always cherish having been one of the pallbearer’s of Biju uncle at his funeral. But that party that bears his name has deviated very far from what he stood for”, Panda stated.

“I’ve been viciously targeted, including being physically assaulted with stones, bricks & eggs last May in Mahanga. I was extremely saddened that even then you (CM Naveen Patnaik) did not bother to call to inquire about my health and safety”, Panda said to media persons.

Jay Panda’s office claimed  that he is the only parliamentarian in the country who has spend more time in his constituency and best utilized MPLAD funds.

Besides being active in Parliament and in his constituency, Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda has been championing several key initiatives including spearheading the campaign to reduce the consumption of tobacco products in India, raise voice against malnutrition and support to the cause of migrant labour.

Earlier on January this year, the CM Naveen Patnaik suspended Baijayant Panda from primary membership of the party.

The suspension was announced by BJD vice-president Surya Narayan Patro who cited that Panda has been directly and indirectly indulging in activities aimed at weakening BJD.
