Nabarangpur Dist remains underdeveloped: MP Balabhadra Majhi

ONI Bureau: In a shocking indictment of his own government which has been ruling Odisha for the last 18 years, Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi has written a letter to NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, saying the Parliamentary constituency stands lowest in almost all parameters of development.

While requesting the NITI Aayog to include Nabarangpur district under the ‘Aspiration District Scheme’, he said having population of 55% tribals, 15% SCs and 20% OBCs, Nabarangpur remains one of the most backward Parliamentary constituencies in India.

“Two of the three districts under Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituency, rank 3rd and 5th lowest literate in India as per the 2011 census, with less than 50% literacy rate. The constituency hardly has 40km Railway line although it spans over a length of 370 km,” the BJD MP wrote.

The MP went on to write “hardly 25% of the cultivated land in Nabarangpur is irrigated and the district has a per capita income of about Rs 25,000”.

He further claimed that majority of people in Nabarangpur district are infested by malnutrition. “About 700 villages are not connected by all weather roads,” he added, while requesting the NITI Aayog Vice Chairman to consider Nabarangpur’s case.
