The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct a National Workshop on Promoting Handlooms with Fashion – ‘Design Sutra’ in its campus on 22nd January 2015. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will be the chief guest, who will inaugurate the workshop at 11 am on Thursday. The inaugural function will also be attended by Santosh Gangwar Minister of State (independent charge) for Ministry of Textiles and Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The information about the workshop ‘Design Sutra’ was given by Prem kumar Gera, IAS, Directoral General, NIFT in a press conference today. Other members present in the press meet were Dr. Vandana Bhandari, Dean, Academics, NIFT, Dr. K. C. S Ray, Director, NIFT, BBSR and U. S . Tolia, Director, Bhopal, NIFT. The workshop, “Design Sutra”, envisages bringing the designers and the handloom weavers together for reinventing handloom with fashion, infusing new idea for producing a wide range of products as per the liking of the customers.
The NIFT Design Sutra will consist of exhibition and display of students’ entries, unveiling of the souvenir on Handloom and Fashion, National Workshop on “Promoting Handlooms with Fashion” involving the major stake holders such as representative from the Industry, Weavers, Artisans Community, Designers, and academia. The event would unleash the potential and provide a new direction to promotion of handlooms so as to attract the younger generation to this prestigious creative activity while meeting the requirement of fashion conscious consumers within the country and abroad.
