NFSA Scheme to roll out in Odisha’s 14 Districts from Today

Ration CentresBhubaneswar, Nov 16: Much awaited National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be implemented in Odisha’s 14 districts from today covering 26.33 lakh families.

As per official sources, as many as 93.35 lakh people would be benefited from the scheme that would begin in 14 districts from Monday.

In the first phase, the scheme will be introduced in 14 districts – Angul, Bargarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Deogarh, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Sambalpur and Sonepur.

The state government has distributed digitised ration cards to beneficiaries for the distribution of ration cards. Under the NSFA, the beneficiaries would get 5 kg of rice or wheat at Rs 3 and Rs 2, respectively from the ration centers set up in every panchayats in the 14 districts.

In order to make the process more transparent, the state government opened centers at the NACs for the correction of card holders by filing application at free of cost, after filing application their errors could be modified within three months.

Over the scheme in Odisha, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleged that some poor people in the stat have been excluded from the list under NFSA and the state government should fist identify real beneficiaries for the successful implementation of the scheme.

Officials said that the Food and Civil Supplies department has issued directives to the district administration to monitor the implementation of the NFSA scheme at district levels.
