NGT asks Union MoEF to submit Status Report on Polavaram

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday ordered the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment (MoEF) to submit a complete status report on the controversial Polavaram irrigation project in Andhra Pradesh.

The next hearing over the issue is scheduled to September 5.

Both Odisha and Chhattisgarh Governments have been opposing to the Polavaram project as the project will submerge vast tracts of forest lands, revenue villages in the upper riparian states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
