Odisha awarded as Leading Geospatial State for 2014

Odisha has been awarded as Leading Geospatial State for the year 2014 for marked achievements in the field of geospatial technology in the entire country. Dr. Sandeep Tripathi, Chief Executive, Odisha Space Applications Centre (ORSAC) has received the award in India Geospatial Forum-2015 ceremony held recently at Hyderabad. Presently, Odisha is a leading State in the country in use of geospatial technologies like remote sensing, geographic information system (GIS) and global positioning system (GPS). The State has successfully applied these techniques in the projects like Odisha Sampad, NLRMP, JnNURM, NRDMS, NRIS and OSDI etc. It may be of worth mention that these technologies are being applied through ORSAC in the State.

Besides, following the advices of Chief Secretary Sri Gokul Chandra Pati, geospatial technology is being applied in the sectors like forestry, water resource augmentation and management, , mining, land records modernization, kendu leaf procurement and micro level plannings. These have set examples for other States in the country. The Chief Executive of ORSAC Dr Tripath said, research activities undertaken by the Scientists of ORSAC and various Universities coupled with the projects supported by different departments of the State Government has brought this distinction to the State. The intelligentsia   have complimented the scientists of ORSAC for this achievement.
