Polavaram Project: BJD calls South Odisha Bandh, protests in Bhubhaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: Protesting against Polavaram project, ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) called South Odisha band on Thursday and staged dharna in front of Raj Bhavan here.

Normal life affected in the southern districts – Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada. Shops and commercial establishments were remained closed following the bandh. Many passengers were stranded in these districts as vehicles stopped plying. Notably, Odisha Chief Minister  said the government would fight for the interest of the people those would be affected due to the irrigation project.

Bijaya Kumar Nayak, general secretary and spokesman of BJYM, youth wing of BJD, said the project will create huge damage to Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput district. He slammed the central government for declaring the project and National Project without considering interest of Odisha.
