Shaktikanta Das from Odisha appointed new RBI Governor

ONI Bureau:  Former Finance Secretary and current member of the Finance Commission Shaktikanta Das has been appointed the 25th Governor of Reserve Bank of India.

Shaktikanta Das, a 1980 batch Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer from Odisha had played a key role during the demonetisation drive.

A former Economic Affairs Secretary of India in 2016, Das became the first Odia to be appointed as the RBI Governor.

The 54-year old Indian economist is a member of the 15th Finance Commission and government’s representative at the Group of 20 summits held at Buenos Aires.

Das served in various positions for both the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu and worked closely with the Central Bank.
