Sudhira Das, 1st Woman Engineer of Odisha dies at 83

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: Sudhira Das, first woman engineer of Odisha, died on Friday morning at the age of 83 here. She was born on March 8, 1932 in Cuttack. She was also the firssudhira-dast Principal of Women’s Polytechnic, Rourkela.

She completed her graduation from Ravenshaw College in 1951 and MSc (Tech) in Radio Physics and Electronics from University of Science & Technology, Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1956.

After completing post graduation, in 1957 she joined as lecturer in Science and Mathematics at Berhampur Engineering School, later renamed as Uma Charan Patnaik Engineering School, Berhampur.

She also served Odisha government from 1957 to 1990.  Sudhira was known for gentle behaviour and being the first Woman Engineer of Odisha, she has been inspiring many aspiring students. Her family members and many dignitaries have paid tributes to her.
