Congress Students meet governorBhubaneswar, Oct 3: The student delegations from all three political outfits – BJD, ABVP and Congress of Utkal University (widely known Vani Vihar) urged Odisha Governor for his intervention over the students’ elections issues on Friday.

According to reports, the delegations of three student outfits have submitted their memorandums to the personal secretary of the Governor S. C. Jamir at Raj Bhawan, as governor was preoccupied on the day with Gandhi Jayanti celebration.

In their memorandums, students have urged the Governor’s intervention into the matter of cancellation of students’ union elections this year by the university authorities citing violence incidents and unrest at the campus as major reason. The students talking to media said that they are being deprived of their fundamental rights.

The ABVP has blamed the ruling BJD government for the cancellation of Varsity polls. However, the BJD has rubbished the charges and said the decision was taken by the PG Council whereas they want the polls to be conducted. The Congress has blamed both BJD and ABVP for the situation.

It is noteworthy that, the authorities of the university had scrapped the students’ union elections for this year following unrest at the campus, on Oct 1. Ranjan Kumar Bal said following the law and order situation at the campus, the officials have decided not to conduct students’ polls this year.
