Australia beat England, raise hopes for Team India

Smith-ODIAustralia registered their third consecutive victory in the tri-series, as they defeated England by three wickets at Hobart today. This victory raised hopes for Team India to get a chance to qualify for the final, if they win both of their remaining matches against Australia and England. The Kangaroos have already qualified for the final.

India haven’t won a single match in this tri-series. They have lost to Australia and then England. England, which lost both matches against Australia, beat India with a bonus point. Unless India win both matches, it would be very tough for the team to qualify for the tri-series final.

In today’s match, England scored 303/8 in 50 overs. Ian Bell was the top scorer with 141, while Moeen Ali (56) and Joe Root (69) were the other contributors. Gurinder Sandhu took two wickets.

Australia reached 304/7 in 49.5 overs to win the match by 3 wickets. Steven Smith scored an unbeaten 102. Smith became the only cricketer in history to score hundreds on Tests and ODI captaincy debut. Shaun Marsh (45), Finch (32), Maxwell (37), Faulkner (35) and Haddin (42) were the other contributors. Woakes, Moeen and Finn took two wickets each. Steven Smith was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
