Bangladesh register Historic 2-1 ODI Series Win over South Africa

Soumya-SarkarAfter beating Zimbabwe 5-0, Pakistan 3-0 and India 2-1, Bangladesh recorded their 4th straight ODI series win, as they defeated mighty South Africa 2-1. The Bangla team, which had lost the first ODI to Proteas, won back to back matches to clinch the series. This is the first time Bangladesh have defeated South Africa in a bilateral series.

In the third ODI at Chittagong, South Africa posted 166/9 in 40 overs. The match was reduced to 40 overs due to rains. David Miller (44) and JP Duminy (51) were the only batsmen who showed some resistance. Shakir took three wickets, while Mustafizur and Rubel took two wickets each.

The victory target of 167 turned out to be too easy for the Bangla team. Openers Tamim Iqbal (72*) and Soumya Sarkar (90) added 154 runs. They reached 170/1 in 26.1 overs and won the match by 9 wickets. Soumya Sarkar was declared ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Man of the Series’.
