HWC 2018: New Zealand beat France 2-1

ONI Bureau: As expected, New Zealand prevailed upon France to launch their Hockey World Cup 2018 campaign with a 2-1 victory. The Kiwis dominated the game throughout. France scored the consolation goal in the dying minutes.

Kane Russel opened the scorecard for New Zealand when he scored a goal in the 17th minute. Although the Black Sticks continued to attack, French defence did not allow them to score more goals. The second goal was scored by Stephen Jenness in the 56ht minute. For France, Victor Charlet scored the lone goal in the 59th minute.

Stephen Jenness was declared ‘Player of the Match’.
